Protobaby
.Frontman Colm McGuinness has a voice deep
as molasses, and their Freedom EP is worth checking out
for that alone. The Title track is cinematic in scope
and builds slowly and tantalizingly via-tinkling guitars
and a tough rock bass. Sold You A Lie has
piercing guitars and rocks like an uptempo U2 track. Violence
on the wind is, contrary to its title, a wistful ballad
that serves as a fine vehicle for that McGuinness
rich voice. Looks like the standards are going to be high
this year.
Freedom EP Review (Hot Press)
....By the end of this EP I feel like I have been on a
dramatic musical journey and I cannot help but feel entranced
and captivated by this band, through the five songs offered
on this E.P. One could easily immerse themselves in the
sounds of this E.P drowning their sorrows and heartache
whilst simultaneously gaining a strong sense of positivity
and spirit. Overall, they offer a very powerful sound
and it appears this band have a lot to offer.....
Freedom E.P Review (www.rockpulse.co.uk)
This EP is simply brilliant and way beyond the years
of this band. The track "Sold you a Lie" could
simply be a track on any one of Interpol's great albums
and is the highlight track on this EP
Freedom EP Review (Indie Limerick)
The main vocalist Colm Mc Guinness has got a deep mysterious
voice but can enrich every track with a burst of passion
in his voice, each song has it's very own little twist
from soft melodic melodies to electro rock shocks just
like a Dr jackal and Hyde,I think this could be a trade
mark for Protobaby.. you can hear this being expressed
in their song "I Think it's Time".. super debut
EP and I'm sure this is only the beginning.
Freedom EP Review (Musicreview Unsigned) Protobaby are
a 4-piece band based in Limerick with members Colm McGuinness,
Tony Monahan, Bryan Ronan and Aidan Graham. Formed over
a year and a half ago when guitar player Tony and bass
player Aidan first met Dublin born singer Colm for the
first time through an ad placed in a national newspaper.
Meeting in a local bar, sat next to an open fire Colm
took out his guitar and played some of his songs. The
lads loved his deep baritone and captivating lyrics. A
rehearsal was arranged and drummer Bryan was soon onboard.
Colms songs, mixed with riffs and guitar ideas from
Tony along with the musical ideas and arrangements from
the entire band have come to form the Protobaby sound.
The band spent 10 months writing, recording, jamming and
rehearsing. Having finished released their debut E.P.
Freedom in Jan 2010 the band will return to
the studio in July 2010 to record a new single and follow
this with a co-headline nationwide tour with fellow Limerick
band Secret Police starting in Dolans Warehouse,
Limerick on the 24th of July.
